Overhaul the work capability assessment process for long term sick and disabled people.

Too many long term sick and disabled people who rely on statutory benefits are suffering because of the inhumane assessment system. It is complicated, rigid, lengthy and punitive for those who cannot comply with certain rules and deadlines. Many have been driven to suicide.

One initial assessment should be enough, thereafter the system needs to be flexible enough to accommodate the needs of the genuinely chronically sick and disabled. There are laws in place which state that reasonable allowances must be made for us elsewhere, why not here?

Recent TV programmes have shown benefits claimants in a very bad light. Benefit fraud stands at around 0.7% of the current claimants. It's a tiny proportion yet millions of us are subjected to gruelling questionnaires and assessments with long waiting periods and threats of sanctions (withdrawal of benefit payments indefinitely) if we are late returning our questionnaires or make a mistake.

Please help me out here. I worked very hard for as long as I could. I paid my taxes. I was a special school teacher until I was injured by one of my students. Now I have a brain injury, cognitive slowness, memory loss, fibromyalgia and ME/CFS, severe hearing loss, tinnitus, PTSD, balance problems, and others I can't remember. Each time a brown envelope drops on my doormat I know that I am about to begin another round of the assessment process; my stress levels rise and my symptoms worsen. I was assessed a couple of years ago and my condition has deteriorated since then, yet I am still required to complete the same questionnaire. Every day is a challenge for me. The DWP has all the evidence from previously, so they have a record of how unwell I was then and the doctor's said then that I wasn't going to get any better.

There are millions of us. Please help. All you need do is sign and share as far as you can.

Thank you. On behalf of us all.
