My Body My Right: Decriminalise Abortion in NSW

This petition had 53 supporters

In NSW, contrary to common belief, abortion remains a criminal offence.
People accessing abortions and their doctors risk prosecution with penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment. As a result, abortion services are restricted and performed, predominately, in private clinics thus preventing access to affordable and safe reproductive health care for many NSW citizens. These outdated laws were written into NSW legislation in 1900, based on English Law from 1861.

Tasmania, Victoria, SA, WA and the ACT have all decriminalised abortion.

The Abortion Law Reform (Miscellaneous Acts Amendment) Bill was debated and voted down in NSW parliament earlier in 2017. This was the first attempt at legislative reform in NSW history to decriminalise abortion. My Body My Right calls on your support to allow the people of NSW affordable, unobstructed and unequivocally lawful access to reproductive health care.

73% of NSW residents want abortion decriminalised. The time for Abortion Law Reform is now.  Move NSW into the 21st C.

The below signed call on the Legislative Assembly to:
..........................................................................................................
1. Repeal sections 82-84 of the Crimes Act 1900 so that abortion is no longer a criminal offence in New South Wales.
