We, the undersigned members of the Stamford Education Association bargaining unit, vehemently oppose the Deputy Superintendent's proposal to install a second principal at Roxbury Elementary School, and, therefore, we demand that the Stamford Public Schools Board of Education (BOE) reject the proposal.

Furthermore, a wealth of research exists supporting the concept that reduced class sizes and increased student support personnel assist THE MOST in reducing the achievement gap, NOT more administrators.

Instead, we urge the BOE to hire classroom teachers and student support personnel. In addition, we urge the BOE to retain the Administrative Intern (AI) position, which is a teacher growth position. This position is valued and exists in every other school. It is a position that provides support to teachers and support personnel as well as the school's administration. Indeed, the salary of the AI position is significantly below the salary of a second principal, which is a financial factor that needs scrutiny during this time of exorbitant mold remediation costs and budget deficits.

In conclusion, we urge the BOE to reject this ill-conceived idea of hiring an additional principal at Roxbury Elementary School!
