Time is of the essence in this situation since school will be starting in less than one month!

Lori McCombs, a Hoover teacher, has been charged with manhandling two different high school students, first on March 4, 2016 and then charged with domestic violence of a teen family member on school property on May 13, 2016, (stemming from an incident from Aug. 2015). Both incidents were captured on School Surveillance videos, however McCombs has Retained her Employment with the Hoover City School District.  The Hoover School system administrators did not see these infractions as reason enough to dismiss her from her employment in the Hoover School District. Furthermore, attempts to speak with school officials about the two incidents have been met with the accusations from school officials that anyone who inquires about either incident is merely participating in hearsay or rumor mongering.

McCombs is currently not the legal guardian of the family member attacked on school property. The first altercation happened August, 2015.  The minor was not in a strong enough mental state due to the trauma of the attack to press formal criminal charges against McCombs at that time.  On May 13, 2016, when it appeared evident that Hoover schools would take no permanent action against McCombs, formal charges were then pressed by the child.

McCombs and her husband, also a Hoover School teacher, maintain her innocence despite video evidence to the contrary.

The only disciplinary action taken by Hoover School system was to suspended McCombs for 15 working days without pay, from Nov. 10, 2015 through Dec. 8, 2015 related to a physical altercation that occurred on school property.

McCombs showed her frustration with students and lack of control again on a 14-year-old student in March of 2016. Both the victim and the witness to this altercation, told police that McCombs was upset that the student wasn't getting "dressed out" for PE class fast enough.   McCombs grabbed the student by the wrist and pulled her from the locker room into a hallway. The incident was captured on video. McCombs was not disciplined in any way for this altercation. Charlie Waldrep, Hoover city attorney, argued against dismissing the charges.  "There were other clear alternatives to an inappropriate physical contact," Waldrep wrote in a motion opposing dismissal.

Teachers that verbally and physically abuse children or bully them in any way have no place in the education system, especially working with special needs children who are unable to defend themselves. Please do not allow McCombs to continue to work in the Hoover City School System in any capacity.

As of this date, the school district continues to support McCombs and will not comment on her return to Hoover High this coming school year.
