On Jan 27, 2022 Sunrise Credit Union Ltd. made the decision to close the branch in Oakburn, Manitoba. Effective May 31, 2022 all member accounts will transferred to the Shoal Lake Branch. They claim that many members use the branch in Shoal Lake already. The credit union did not get any Oakburn members input on the matter.

• Their mission states “We are a member owned community focused organization dedicated to providing personalized competitive financial services to benefit our members and communities” (Sunrisecu.ca) They also claim to value honesty, truthfulness, fairness, empathy, and to be respectful.
• They claim that they are a cooperative, owned by its members, saying they will make sure we, as members, are happy at all times. So, why didn’t they get any of their members input on this decision? Do the approximately 500 Oakburn members not matter anymore?

WE HEREBY PETITION THE BOARD TO PASS A MOTION PLACING A MORATORIUM ON BRANCH CLOSURES FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR TO ALLOW FOR A PROPER, FAIR, AND DEMOCRATIC CONSULTATION PROCESS TO BE CARRIED OUT WITH THE COMMUNITY OF OAKBURN AND AFFECTED MEMBERS.
