This election is unlike any other. Nothing less is at stake than the future of our livable planet, the NHS and public services.
Despite the ravages of the last 9 years of austerity and cuts, despite the dire straits the NHS is in, despite the £billions wasted on Brexit, the Tories are 10 points ahead in the latest polls and set to storm to a majority.
This cannot be allowed to happen. NHS doctors are imploring us that the NHS cannot afford another 5 years of Tory government, let alone in current hard-right form, let alone unchallenged with a majority, and free to pursue their deregulationist agenda.
Labour are not catching up at the rate they were in 2017. At this stage a Tory majority is basically a done deal, except as the People’s Vote campaign points out, "there still is a chance if there is industrial-scale tactical voting... We need something seismic to happen to supercharge it.”
We call on the leaders of the broadly progressive parties to stand aside their candidates in marginal seats where the other has a clearly better chance of catching the Tory candidate.
This could start with Lib Dems standing down in Uxbridge to give Labour a better chance of unseating Boris; and follow with Labour standing down in Esher, to unseat Dominic Raab. And from there to all the marginals.
We call on our leaders in Labour and the Liberal Democrats to grasp the significance of this moment in history, and to give us a shot on Thursday, a real hope at the last just when it's flickering out, of saving the planet and the NHS for our children.
Please - for the sake of our futures - pick up the phone and talk to each other. It's the only chance we have left.
