To send an Irish team to the World Youth Boxing Championships!!
Why this petition matters
PLEASE SUPPORT AND SHARE OUR PETITION!
This is a petition that is being started up in hope to send an Irish team away to the World Youth boxing championships that are being held in Alicante, Spain in the coming month of November. All throughout the year, these U18 boxers have given up and dedicated their mornings, evenings, family holidays, summer holidays and their weekends to training for a championship that they were told they are now not being sent to. The reason being, Ireland are supposedly standing with other nations and boycotting the world championships in not supporting the IBA’s decision of Russia and Belarus being allowed to box in this upcoming event. This decision was made in aid to support Ukraine and stand in union with them! Which we would totally agree with if it was a international decision. Although, Ukrainian boxers are now in a camp training to compete in the World Championships along with many other nations.
Why does the future of boxing have to suffer due to politics? All we as boxers want to do is simply BOX! Our chances of possibly winning a medal has been taken away from us without a second thought given. Ireland as a whole are saddened as to what’s happening in Ukraine, but why if they can compete do we have to lose out on quality international experience??
I hope you see our point as a team, we need all of the help we can get to try to appeal this decision or at least get some sort of knowledge of what is going on. This is not just going to effect us for this competition, what happens when Russia and Belarus are allowed to box in future Europeans and World Championships? Will we have to boycott them competitions again and give other Irish boxers no chance of international experience? We will be bringing this up with the sports minister, the IABA, the central council and many more. We can not let this go without trying. Our dreams are being crushed right in front of our faces..
Thank you for taking the time to read this, we really appreciate it!
The U18 Irish Youth Team.
