EASA panel on the Future of American Studies

Feb 5, 2014 — The issue of the boycott resolution passed by the American Studies Association has hardly settled down going into spring conferences. Those of you near the Philadelphia area are invited to a panel "After the Resolution: The Future of American Studies" at the Eastern American Studies Association conference held at LaSalle University, March 27-28. I am moderating the panel featuring Miles Orvell, Rob Snyder, Asaf Romirowsky, and Sharon Musher reflecting on strategies for American Studies moving forward in light of the boycott. I also recommend reading Richard Behar's follow-up piece on the ASA leadership in Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/richardbehar/2014/02/04/homophobic-racist-sexist-take-xanax-reactions-to-my-open-letter-to-nyu-on-asas-israel-boycott/

If you can't beat 'em, smear 'em. That's how I'd sum up the reaction of the American Studies Association and the Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions (BDS) movement to my Open Letter to New York University president John Sexton. NYU didn't care for my letter either, but its views were measured and responsible.
