Vishakha Bhandari started this petition to Mr Narendra Modi (Prime Minister of India) and

Giving voice to a million other female aspirants, with this petition I'd like to draw your attention towards the huge difference in vacancies of men and women in the Indian armed forces. The Indian Air Force merit list was issued recently along with the merit of Indian Coast guard, women:men intake ratio being 1:4 and 1:6 (as usual) and the same is the case with Army and Navy.  On the other hand cut off for women candidates in army technical entry is 80% and 50% for men of the same branch, therefore female candidates are not even allowed to appear for the interviews.

Hence, the percentage of women in the armed forces remains less than 15%.

If Permanent commission is being granted solely to men, can't Short Service Commission be for women candidates only? Or issue a general merit for both so as to eradicate all the differences and biases, so the deserving gets in despite the gender? Can equality exist on ground and not just in the heads of the people?

Real opportunities need to be created and not just false hopes since ladies are getting recommended from all the stages as men and yet, the system being such, unfortunately, they are off the merit wherein male candidates with even lesser marks are in due to higher number of vacancies.

With your voices echoing mine, I believe it would be easier to urge the government to not oppress women in the sector that is still the most trusted and unbiased, and revise the number of vacancies in the Indian Armed Forces, if the motive really lies in empowering women.
