Why this petition matters
Petition to the Ile-Bizard-Sainte-Genevieve mayors Robert Samoszewski and Normand Marinacci.
As our climate has continued to increase at alarming rates despite a 6% to 7% drop in emissions in 2020, the Greenhouse gas concentrations have continued to remain at a very high level.
As our population has been expanding significantly for years, the need for more homes and resources has increased. A result of this is the loss of land for plants and trees. It is essential to have vegetation and nature as it helps absorb the CO2 in our air, which reduces climate change. With deforestation, we lose habitats for animals and insects to live. Every living organism is crucial to the environment as every single one of them has a role in the food chain. We believe that our nature parks need to be better protected and there should be more paths for biking and walking. With this addition to our city, citizens can choose more ways to get around other than cars resulting in less gas emissions.
We the residents of the city of Montreal understand that we must make a change to our way of life. To be successful, we need additional involvement and support from our government as well.
Therefore, we call upon the Ile-Bizard-Sainte-Genevieve mayors Robert Samoszewski and Normand Marinacci to have better protection laws for our nature parks with more paths for bikers and walkers.
