Do Our Lives Matter? started this petition to Andrew M. Cuomo and

On behalf of the black community in Queens, New York, we have here today a petition in efforts to speak about our concerns about the safety and the well-being of our black men, women, and future generations. After all the recent tragedies that are going on in America, the community has decided that we want our voices to be heard in effort of reformation and respect.

The mission here is to speak to someone about our kid’s futures and take the necessary steps to make sure they are not going through what many are enduring now. An impression has already been set on our generation due to these unfortunate events, but our future generation does not have to go through this, if there is something we can do to stop it while we can then why not?

"It takes a village to raise a child." Whatever happened to neighborhood watch programs?  Let’s work on how police enforcement can work with us as the people to protect and help keep us safe by instating a watch program in our neighborhoods. Not only is this creating local jobs for those who need it, but also creates a bond within the community because citizens will feel safer knowing that their own is protecting our communities.

It seems to be majority of these innocent lives that are taken are at the right place but at the wrong time. Let’s work on making more centers and or programs that could become safe places for our children, so no one has a reason to stop them while walking home, or even something as simple as going to a local bodega.

"You don't know where you're going, unless you know where you come from. Let's work on policy changes in our schools, such as further steps in training and educating our teachers (that are teaching our future leaders), how to properly educate our children of color on their history.

Also, enforcing new and strict policies within our criminal justice system and law enforcement system is a must. We need new and strict training for our cops, strict and precise screenings must be enforced, and also mental evaluations must take place on the people that are meant to serve and protect us.

The change starts with us, the people, the community. Signing this petition, you are taking one step forward to bettering our community.
