In the past few days there have been quite a few Covid-19 cases at the Winthrop L. Chenery Middle School because of the new Omicron variant. The school has taken a few measures to stop the spread which are good but are not adequate for the current situation. The school has more than 1,000 people so making sure everyone does basic and essential things like wearing a mask is close to impossible. This adds to the well documented fact that Chenery is too small for the amount of people it holds. This means that even a few people not wearing masks could get a quarter of the school infected within a week. As they say, a few bad apples spoil the bunch. As someone who goes to the school myself I have become extremely passionate about this issue (which is obviously why I took the time to create this petition). A few of my classmates have gotten Covid and judging by how viruses spread that amount will almost certainly grow. At least at this time the only solution I think will work is to make the school go fully remote, at least for a few weeks until they have proper control of the situation.
