Aloha,

I am a parent of a graduating Senior at Castle High School c/o 2022! We have been informed that lei giving tradition will NOT be allowed for our kids. Up until now, they have worked their entire lives to get to this achievement, their biggest accomplishment thus far. To rip our children of this Hawaii tradition is not only very upsetting, but it is UNFAIR for our kids. How can we strip this tradition of congratulations and embrace our children for their hard work without the same traditions we grew up having?  Many other Hawaii High Schools are allowing lei giving, what makes Castle students any different? Why can’t we? It is a personal decision made by the Principal and we must stand up and fight for our kids. BE THEIR VOICE!! I have emailed Principal Bernadette Tyrell asking her to please change her mind. We have to come together. The more parents/students/families that speak up, the more chances that we will be heard! If Leilehua High School parents can fight for their kids and have this decision changed, SO CAN WE!! I watched my daughter and her entire class of 2020 have their graduation ceremony ripped from them in light of the pandemic. I do not want to see this happen again. I read someone say that a student voiced that she felt the parents didn’t care because no one is fighting for them. Please sign this petition and help us be heard for the sake of our kids!
