I want to petition the removal of everything that has attacked the portrayals of the Indigenous Community and the Black Community (located in WNC). Whether that is a sports mascot that has portrayed someone of an indigenous community in a negative connotation or building up a statue or monument that honors someone who had owned slaves. I believe that having those in our community is not only racist but demoralizing to the various racial communities that surround us. I can understand it is a big task to achieve and there will be people that oppose the idea. Some may argue that this can be considered censorship of their right to free speech( and believe they have). I want to do this to not only respect the people of those various racial communities but to advocate for their equality/equity in our community. I shouldn't have to tell anyone that everyone being treated equally is that everyone is treated the same way and not treated based on whatever basis or prejudice a person on someone. I also believe that there is legit no reason to believe yourself higher than someone else solely because you think you are "superior" due to racial /ethnic descriptions. There is no reason to believe yourself better than someone because you think your racial/ethnic background is better.
