Petition - Restore the GREEN ON Program

TO - The Legislative Assembly of Ontario

Whereas

The Ontario Conservative Government cancelled the GREEN ON program which helped Ontarians reduce their energy bills and reduce greenhouse gases to fight climate change.

Whereas

The GREEN ON program assisted homeowners, renters and businesses in saving money through rebates and energy saving retrofits which encouraged Ontarians to get smart thermostats, energy-efficient windows and solar panels.  It created jobs by offering rebates of up to $14,000 to Ontario consumers that purchased Electric Vehicles such as the Pacifica Hybrid-Electric Minivan made in Windsor, Ontario.  These incentives were financed by "carbon credit" auctions which allowed industries to buy greenhouse gas emission permits under the Ontario cap-and-trade program.  This "polluter pay" program was an effort to put a price on pollution thereby encouraging greenhouse gas reduction.

WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:

That the Ontario government restore the program that was critical to Ontario's role in Canada's commitment to reduce the carbon footprint on a global scale and sustaining a clean green economy for our future.
