The Chief Minister/Labour Minister
Government of Tamilnadu
Chennai – 600 009
Sub: Request to intervene under ID Act 1947 Section 10 (1) and 10 B in the issue of 8 days penal wage cut for Pricol workers by the Pricol Management on 06.05.2017.
This is bring to your attention that 16 comrades in Coimbatore and 6 comrades in Chennai are undergoing indefinite hunger strike from 19 June 2017 demanding the intervention of the Government of Tamilnadu under ID Act 1947 Section 10 (1) and 10 B in the issue of 8 days penal wage cut for Pricol workers by the Pricol Management on 06.05.2017.
Workers of Pricol Limited went on one day strike on 25.04.2017 as a part of the call given by all central trade unions in solidarity with the fighting farmers of the state in the background of acute agrarian crisis. The union of the workers has given notice to the management for the strike. Indeed there is a clause in the tripartite long term settlements dated 08.06.2012 and 02.08.2014 which allows such solidarity strikes coupled with compensatory workday in lieu of the work day lost for such solidarity strikes.
In such circumstances, Pricol Management has deducted 8 days wages for 840 Pricol workers who participated in the strike in solidarity with the farmers in crisis. We want to bring to your attention that when transport workers of the state went on two-days strike recently on their long-pending demands, the Government of Tamilnadu did not effect any penal wage cut or any other victimizing measure and instead adjusted those two days against their eligible leave.
Those who are undergoing indefinite hunger strike from 19 June 2017 are demanding measures which are well within the easy reach of the Government of Tamilnadu. Our state unit has already met the Officers of the Labor Department and raised the above said demands. We request that justice for the workers may be rendered by passing orders under Section 10 (1) of ID Act 1947 to refer the dispute to the court and under Section 10 B to order Pricol Management to pay 8 days wages amount as advance pending adjudication of that dispute.
