Why this petition matters

Started by Conner Young

This petition is in support of the installation of 2 sand volleyball courts on campus at Thomas More University for recreational use by the TMU community of students ("TMU Sand Volleyball Court Project"). The signatories to this petition hereby respectfully request that Thomas More University consider, approve, and implement, as expeditiously as reasonably possible, the TMU Sand Volleyball Court Project.

Currently, despite significant demand from TMU students, there is no opportunity to engage in outdoor volleyball activities on campus. There is excitement among many in the student community at the prospect of a couple of nice sand volleyball courts to engage in sand volleyball during the non-Winter months.

Here is some relevant information regarding the TMU Sand Volleyball Court Project:

  • TMU had a popular sand volleyball court on campus that was removed due to the building of Renaissance Hall.
  • Sand volleyball is a fun and beneficial activity.  Playing sand volleyball in an unstructured setting is a fun activity for those who are not competitive players and a beneficial activity for competitive players that just need an unstructured opportunity to enjoy the game and improve their skills.
  • Sand Volleyball Courts can also be utilized for intramural volleyball leagues for TMU students (which was done prior to the removal of the old court).
  • Sand Volleyball Courts are simple to install and cheap: principally, high quality beach sand, posts and all-weather nets.
  • The area needed for the proposed TMU Sand Volleyball Court Project is small, leaving plenty of green space on campus.
  • Many other colleges and universities have sand volleyball courts (Xavier, NKU, etc.).
  • Additional recreation opportunities will enhance the overall TMU campus image and attract more students.
  • The existence of Sand Volleyball Courts on campus will help in the recruitment of athletes who play or have played sand volleyball, especially for the Men’s and Women’s volleyball programs.
  • The existence of Sand Volleyball Courts can give TMU athletic teams another place to work on conditioning (in or out of season).

We look forward to the swift implementation of the TMU Sand Volleyball Court Project.
