TMEA is going to become based on how well your recording system is rather than your own playing ability. By online TMEA students are going to be enforced to cheat and many other sketchy things. Even if we are in a controlled enviorment i.e a band hall, results will still not be as accurate as they can possibly be. Having nerves during on audition makes the player improve and it also helps deciding which players are the best. Without this type of pressure, kids will be able to feel at ease and not grow as a player and more importantly a person. One way auditions can still place in person is by taking everybody's temperture before entering cafeteria/performing area. Students that do not qualify will be sent home. In the audition room seperate people more far apart from each and even wear masks when another person in performing. Judges will follow the same in terms of social distancing or maybe only have 3 judges. Monitors should properly spray down each music stand to also ensure students safety. This process can take 2 to 3 times longer than how things are normally done. At the end of the day students will be happier at the outcome rather than using the lazy route that TMEA has decided go through with.
