One in four.

I'm sure you've heard the statistic-- one in four women report surviving a rape or attempted rape during their college years. I would give you a specific source, but I couldn't pick a favorite. Google it if you don't believe me.

I could sit and list statistic after statistic, throw numbers at you and hope that you understand how serious this problem is. And I could preach about how desperate I am to make campus life safer for everyone. But I won't. Instead I'll teach you a thing or two about Callisto.

Project Callisto is "tech to combat sexual assault". What does this mean? OPTIONS for survivors. It allows for survivors to log on and record the information about the assault. This includes time, date, location, perpetrator name (if known), details about the incident, etc. It is a safe, secure, time-stamped document. It can be much less intimidating than going straight to the police, who may or may not believe the survivor for whatever reason.

From there, survivors can report electronically to authorities. OR NOT. Just because the information gets recorded, does not mean that it has to be reported. That's just another choice for the survivor to make. However, being able to report electronically is just a convenient and less intimidating way to report.

Another great thing about Callisto is that it CAN match you with another survivor based on perpetrator name. If you choose this option, when another survivor puts in the same name as you did for your offender, it will notify both of the survivors and the police. Having another woman to go through the process with might make it a little more bearable. Strength in numbers, am I right?

On top of all of that, Project Callisto's website also offers links to helpful resources for survivors. Sexual assault can result in a plethora of problems, but luckily there's lots of help out there. It's just nice to have it listed at your fingertips.

Here's to making campus safer. Help me bring Project Callisto to Florida State!!

Much love, and GO NOLES!
