In the United States, cancer remains the leading cause of death from disease in children. There are more than 100 different types of childhood cancer, and many still have unacceptably low cure rates. Most funding for childhood cancer research comes from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), but only 4% of the NCI budget is dedicated to pediatric cancer research.
The Childhood Cancer Survivorship, Treatment, Access, and Research (STAR) Act is the most comprehensive pediatric cancer bill ever taken up by Congress. It expands opportunities for research, improves efforts to identify and track incidences and enhances the quality of life for childhood cancer survivors.
Our goal for the month is 1290 signatures - one for every child diagnosed with cancer during that time.
