Stop the closure of the Suffolk Police Control Room

If the closure of the Suffolk Police Control Room goes ahead then the consequences for the people of Suffolk would be catastrophic.

The closure would lead to the loss of jobs in Suffolk for up to 130 people, the majority of whom would be unable to relocate or commute to Norfolk. This would have a devastating effect on them, their families and the Suffolk economy. There are many long serving staff members in the Suffolk Control Room and the loss of these local professionals and their experience would be a tragedy for the Suffolk Police Force.

The closure will also impact on public safety and compromise the ability of Police Officers to do their job effectively. The work of a police control room is carried out by highly skilled professionals and one of their key skills is local knowledge. Having an understanding of the county and its people is something that cannot simply be transferred to workers in another county. Although the work of the control room staff is carried out behind the scenes, their contribution to policing can be seen every day. The public rely on front line police officers being in the right place at the right time, and it is the control room staff that make sure they are there.

The cuts to this public service must stop. The cost of saving money in this way will ultimately be too high.
