Personal property taxation is a form of taxation without representation nor consent from those currently being taxed. The American revolution was fought over unjust taxation without representation and now we find such taxation being levied against us by our own state government. This taxation disproportionately affects low income families and families of color as they are being charged money that they desperately need to feed their families. In addition Virginia citizens are being taxed for property they have already paid taxes for upon the purchase of those goods and properties. This type of taxation is nothing short of the communist ethos of all property being leased temporarily from government. If a person does not pay their PPT every year they will be fined, eventually leading to property seizure or even prosecution and time in jail. This is unjust overreach by state and local governments and to better reflect the will of the people we have started this petition to repeal personal property taxes as a whole so that we the people are not rebting our own bought-and-paid-for property from a government that has no right nor authority to do so.
