Obsidian, Please Support Modding in The Outer Worlds
Das Problem
Problem
Obsidian PR Manager Mikey Dowling recently said "while we'd love to, we don't have plans to support mods." (src: https://imgur.com/a/0Ty2I24) This is a significant letdown and a missed opportunity for Obsidian.
While resources are understandably limited, the opinion here is that mod support should be among the highest priorities (after delivering a functional product) if not at launch then sometime thereafter. No studio, big or small, has the resources the of the modding community. Fallout New Vegas has close to 20,000 mods from thousands of talented individuals ranging from small but meaningful adjustments to gameplay like realistic weapon damage to massive multi-year labors of love like Fallout: New California. Many people, the author included, continue to play Fallout New Vegas to this day because of mods.
One of the joys of RPGs is being able to choose your own way to play. Mods are an extension of this idea. This is why the top 15 most modded games on Nexusmods are all RPGs. Mods allow players to tweak things to their liking. The common request for a third person camera, for instance, could likely be accomplished by mods (a similar mod allowed for first person perspective in The Witcher 3). Few studios have respected the "play your own way" ethos as much as Obsidian, and it would be a shame if they missed out on this opportunity to allow their fans to do just that.
By signing this petition you are (respectfully!) letting Obsidian know how important mod support is to you. Even if mod support is not a day-one feature, by signing here you can set the agenda for post-launch support or, at least, for a sequel.
