A letter from Mr. Rickey L. Savage.
As I sit here on Sunday morning, 5 February 2012, reminiscing about the past 26 years as a color guard instructor, percussion instructor, beginning band teacher, general music teacher, middle school band teacher & high school band director in the Tift County School System, I have a lot of great memories and monumental accomplishments.
Between the years or 1986 & 2012, which has been my time here under the above positions, the Brigade has compiled the following record at marching band competitions:
31 Grand Championships (overall highest total band score)
43 Superior Ratings
3 Excellent Ratings
1 National Championship
28 Championships (high score regardless of class)
45 Superior Ratings
1 Excellent Rating
1 Grand Championship
11 Championships (high score regardless of class)
40 Superior Ratings
5 Excellent Ratings
1 Good Rating
These results are based on current trophies, score sheets, senior accomplishments, video/audio tapes over 46 known competitions.
In addition, the Brigade has marched in National Parades in Atlanta, GA, Houston, TX, Chicago, IL, Philadelphia, PA, Daytona, FL, & Honolulu, HI.
The Brigade has performed marching exhibitions at the Superdome, Orange Bowl, Outback Bowl, Champs Bowl, Auburn University, Troy University.
After pondering through and assessing all of the above accomplishments, realizing that the Brigade students, staff, & boosters did all of this out of our own dedication, determination & desire and considering the present decisions that have been made, I really have strong reservations as to the well being of our Brigade family. No one, nobody, not no how or no where can ever take away the Spirit of the Brigade that has been felt by the members of the past, nor will our feelings for each other be tainted by people who do not know…
WE know who WE are and WE know what WE do.
WE are the BRIGADE and will be forever!....No one can take that from me….
I truly and sincerely thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for your support and kind words of encouragement through this most difficult time.
Mr. Savage has been a band director in the Tift County School System for decades. Has touched the lives of many young people in Tift County. Forcing him to resign, and threatening to take away his retirement is unjust. He has helped shaped the lives of young people into responsible adults. This man has given so much to our community, he deserves our support. We love him, and want him to be here! We want him reinstated as Band Director!
