According to a Cornell PULSE Survey, 40% of undergraduates at Cornell University have been unable to function academically for at least a week within the past year due to depression, stress, or anxiety. However, despite this evident demand for Mental Health Professionals, Cornell students are repetitively turned away from immediate access to therapists at Cornell Health and are often forced to wait weeks to be seen. This wait is simply unacceptable.

In order to improve Cornell Health's ability to serve students, we believe Cornell needs to be held accountable for its presently inadequate Mental Health services. This petition has been designed with the purpose of pushing Cornell to address this issue through hiring more Mental Health Professionals. Although we understand that there are constraints on this hiring process, we believe it puts students at high risk when Cornell makes them wait any length of time over one week to be seen by a Mental Health Professional after the initial request. Thus, we as students are banding together to push Cornell to be held accountable for providing adequate Mental Health services to its students.
