Nantucket Together started this petition to Residents of Nantucket

A "VOTE NO" on ACK-Now's harmful Article 90 which restricts short-term rentals island wide for both full-time and part-time residents, means...

NO to a few who seek to control the entire island and our way of life.

NO to privately funded, small, special interest groups like ACK-Now.

YES to support Nantucket businesses & the many who depend on tourism.

YES to sensible solutions that directly support affordable housing.

We, the undersigned families and individuals, who love the island and wish to preserve its way of life while improving it for future generations, respectfully request the Select Board to concur with the Finance Committee, to vote to NOT support ACK-Now Article 90 against short-term rentals, and communicate this to Nantucket voters because:

1.     It will result in economic harm to thousands of residents, to Nantucket’s economy, and to the community, businesses, and town government that depend on tourism for both income and tax revenue;

2.     It will curb the rights of homeowners, restrict the rights of residents to lease their homes to support tourism, especially during the long 9 month "low" season when the island most needs business, and even seeks to limit the use of private driveways and bedrooms;

3.     ACK-Now has justified their attack on the islands economy and homeowners who do short term rentals through highly misleading statements, mislabeling of government data and anecdotal observation.

4.      Through source data analysis and economic studies, it has been proven that short-term rentals are not a major factor in the affordable housing crisis or year-round housing loss on island.  These are nationwide issues which must be addressed, but are not unique to Nantucket.

5.     It seeks to divide island homeowners between full-time and part-time residents, those who do rentals and those who do not, and then, harms families with one home on island who provide 90%+ of short-term rentals, though ACK-Now states a primary concern is investors who provide less than 10% of rentals.

We, the undersigned, further commit that once Article 90 is defeated, we will support those who seek to address issues of concern in ways that do the most good and least harm.
