Release Rosa Maria to her family immediately, Stop arrests in healthcare settings!

We are alarmed by the detention of a disabled ten year old girl following her surgery at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.  Her removal from the hospital by enforcement agents, separation from her family and detention in a facility are unacceptable for people of conscience. Not only does this put the child’s health at risk, but she will be traumatized by her inexplicable separation from her family at a time when she was in pain and vulnerable.

Rosa Maria Hernandez must be returned to her family’s care immediately, and the immigration cases against her and her parents must be dropped

The damaging consequences of this cruelty are not limited to this child and her family. The ability of those among us who are health care professionals to care for our patients is compromised when seeking medical care becomes associated with fear.  For the well-being of all, immigration enforcement activity anywhere near a hospital, clinic or other healthcare facility must stop immediately.
