Change for Deaf Inmates
Change for Deaf Inmates

If change is brought about to the treatment of deaf prison inmates, they will be afforded the same rights as all other prisioners. Currently, most deaf inmates do not have access to interpreters, prison programs, or videophones to communicate with their families. They suffer in solitude through most of their sentences. They often have no access to communication during their trials and sentencing. Can not complete programs required for early release. And most importantly, they are often cut off from their families and the outside world. This is what we call a “prision within a prision”. Deaf inmates have the right to access these resources throughout any proceedings in the criminal justice system; and they deserve the same resources as all other inmates.
