Why is the math curriculum so illogical? It focuses on memorization rather than understanding and is completely boring and useless. Many classes simply have you memorize things like the quadratic formula instead of teaching how to derive it and why it worlds. A lot of people think that the textbook makes simple things more complicated and would learn better if concepts were explained in a more clear manner. Instead, we could have an extra class or a better math class in which useful concepts are taught at earlier grade levels (such as trigonometry and logarithms) and explained fully. This would increase interest in math at a young age. Instead of just memorizing formulas, the class would focus on deriving the formulas and applying to real life. Right now, we focus on boring problems like “Transform the parent function,” which are pretty much useless in careers. If we focused on things like the golden ratio and the relevance of the trigonometric ratios, class would actually be engaging and productive. We should also learn how to do taxes and learn more about the economic system. Math is already fun, but together, we can make math class fun!
