Wearing helmets on a bike should be a legal requirement

It’s illegal to drive without a seat belt so why is it any different for wearing a helmet on a bike. In 2016, 18,477 cyclists were injured in reported road accidents, including 3,499 who were killed or seriously injured. This number can be reduced if it becomes a legal requirement to where a helmet when you are riding a bike. Cycling is on the rise in the UK because of health and environmental benifits and so we need to step up our protection for bike users. Many people don’t wear a helmet because of sheer embarrassment and by making it a legal requirement it would remove this embarrassment. I truly believe that more can be done by the UK government in protecting cyclists from fatal injuries.
