Acorn's Children’s Hospice is set to close its Black Country Hospice in Walsall which has been supporting children with life-limiting / threatening illnesses for over 20 years.

The hospice provides specialist care and support to some of West Midlands most poorly children and their families. Currently 233 children and their families are cared for and supported at the Black Country Hospice. Children who are not expected to live into their adolescent years.

The Hospice is a life line for families who have very poorly children to care for. Parents can pre book and drop off their poorly children at the centre to have a short break from their caring role, knowing that their children are in good hands and are being looked after by specialist staff nurses and carers.

The Hospice also has a dedicated member of staff available 24/7 all year over the phone to support parents. When children pass away a special room has been set up to allow families to grieve and spend the final hours with their child. It’s a focal point and wonderful centre that supports life limited children who are with us for a very short time.

We were unfortunate enough to have two very poorly children and as family have used this facility for 11 years. Our daughter enjoys using the facility, our little boy who unfortunately passed away in November 2016 aged 7 loved to visit when he was well enough. This is mainly due to the wonderful building and more importantly what is inside, the fantastic staff and volunteers that make Acorns what it is, a safe haven full of laughter and love where children are cared for by specialist staff and are free to play and enjoy the specialist facilities.

Acorn’s support over the years to both our children and to us as parents has just been incredible and without them we just don't know how we would have coped.

Acorns reasons to stop offering services at the Black Country facility is due funding cuts from government and drop in charitable donations. They cannot financially keep the facility open without funding.

Please help stop this facility from closing by signing this petition to demand the UK government to step in and help this children’s  charity.

We cannot allow some of the most vulnerable and poorly children in the West Midlands to be disadvantaged by government cuts.

At the same time dedicated staff who have devoted their lives to care for these children are likely to lose their jobs.
