Provide legal assistance to special guardians

We are among 1000s of People who are raising someone else's children, often family but not always. These children have often been in the care of social services due to abuse and neglect and so needed a permanent home. Special guardianship orders are supposed to be until the child reaches 18. What is happening more frequently is the birth parents are exercising their legal rights to challenge this to have the children returned home. This places a lot of stress on special guardians when they are already looking after the child, often with behaviour problems and dealing with challenging issues from birth parents. Special guardians have made huge life changes in making the decision to care for the children and suffered loss of lifestyle, finances and many end up in debt. They are not complaining but asking for assistance. When they are taken to court they cannot afford legal representation which leaves them in a difficult position. To represent themselves without legal advice or to increase their financial debt. It is unfair that they should be expected to do either when the situation they are in is through no fault of their own. They are good, kind people providing a loving home to children who through no fault of their own are not being raised by their parents.
