Recently, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a report explaining the dangers of rising global temperatures. The current governmental aims are to prevent temperatures rising by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, but even this increase will cause "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society". So much of the world could be destroyed if we achieve this target, but what's even worse is that we're on course for an increase of 3 degrees Celsius, breaking the 1.5 degree level in only 2030. Massive world-wide changes need to occur if we are to save this planet from what is a very immediate threat.

I propose that supermarket products should have to label how many tonnes of CO2 are consumed in the production of these products. This should be found by an independent scientific study and would not only allow consumers to reduce their global footprint by adjusting their diet, but also encourage companies to reduce their own environmental impact.
