Our leaders must address the slave crisis in Libya

The slave crisis in Libya has not disappeared. There are still an estimated 400,000 people trapped in Libya, lured there with the promise of better lives. Families are separated, tortured and even killed indiscriminately. They are forced to work until the point of exhaustion, then they are punished severely. Their means of "escape", crossing the sea to reach Europe, can be deadly- 3000 have died sailing over in the past four years. We must protect the lives of these poor, unfortunate souls who have been so horrifically exploited. Our politicians have the power to confront this problem, and we must make them listen.
