Mandatory basic life support training for all new parents before they leave hospital.

Basic life support training is offered currently to parents of high risk babies or after a ALTE (apparent life threatening event) has occurred. I am asking for this training to be given to all new parents before they leave hospital so they are equipped with the skills incase anything should happen. Finding your child unresponsive and not breathing is a terrifying experience and having this skill could be life saving.
Every bed on the post natal ward has a television, a DVD on basic life support could be available to be accessed by all new parents to watch before they are discharged if there is no budget for one to one or group training. Resusitation dolls should be available on every post natal ward for new parents to practise on before they are discharged.
