Implement UK politics in to the national education curriculum

With prospects of the national voting age being lowered to 16, I think it's crucial that young people be taught about current politics and the history of politics in secondary schools in the U.K.
I know of so many young people who have no idea about the political state of this country, which leads to their votes being wasted due to a major lack of understanding.
If young people are to be trusted to vote in local/general elections and they should be equipped with full knowledge and understanding of the major parties histories, agendas and ideologies.
This is a topic which I find much more important than some of the other subjects which are taught in the current curriculum - Pythagoras theorem and trigonometry for example are skills which I personally find significantly less useful in comparison to politics - which is a major part of our society in the UK and worldwide also.
