Give National Servicemen an Official Medal

Hundreds of Thousands of young men were conscripted into Military Service between 1939 and 1960. They served - some with great distinction - in this country and many in various theatres of what may be regarded as 'Small Wars'. Some died. Is it possible that these men - many now reaching advanced ages - could now have their service recognised by the creation of an official Nation Service Medal. At present, if they choose to have that part of their life marked, they have to purchase an unofficial medal which is not supposed to be worn alongside any official decoration. Should their service not now be officially recognised?
