Gay Equality in Northern Ireland

After the UK General election, we find ourselves as a nation exposed to the stoneage reality of LGBTQ couples in Northern Ireland.
As part of the Good Friday Agreement, regardless of the views expressed by the general populace or even as voted for in the Stormont Assembley, political parties in Northern Ireland can still submitt a 'petition of concern.'
In doing this, they can block legislation that the majority believe in. The DUP have done this with marriage equality.
I am calling on Theresa May, PM, to push the DUP into extending LGBTQ rights into Northern Ireland once and for all. We have a unique opportunity now the spotlight and political pressure is finally on Stormont.
A failure for the PM to negotiate this basic human right is a failure of her to protect and advocate for all her citizens across the United Kingdom. Before a formal power sharing agreement is in place, the PM should demand that the DUP veto their petition of concern and call for a vote on marriage equality on the day Stormont is reinstated.
