Every Eligible Person in the UK to vote

At present there are yet again calls for the current method of voting to be replaced with proportional representation however before any such change we need to make changes that require all eligible UK residents to firstly register for a vote and secondly to carry out their civic duty and vote.
We have over the years we have had campaigns to have the winning parties policies over turn often by those who have failed to vote. It is estimated that somewhere in the region of 34% of registered voters failed to vote. Based on 2011 information where there may be as many a 6 million individuals not registered to vote and the 2.4 million who registered to vote prior to the 2017 election there are 3.6 million people failing to register to vote.
The signatories of this petition call on the Government to consider implementing a system similar to that of Australia where it is offence to fail to register to vote and also a further offence to fail to vote without a valid reason.
