Equal Benefits for Self Employed
This petition had 39 supporters
In the budget of 8th March 2017, the Chancellor raised the amount of National Insurance payable by self employed persons with the justification that everyone should pay the same. However, self employed people do not receive the same benefits that employed people do - for example, no sick pay, holiday pay or maternity pay is available for them. It therefore seems very unfair to burden them with "equal payments" when they are not receiving equal benefits. Therefore the increase in those payments should be cancelled, or alternatively self employed people should receive equal benefits.
