Enable voting rights for British expats for the General Election on 8th June 2017
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
British expats living outside the U.K. for more than 15 years are currently not allowed to vote in British elections. They were disenfranchised and not allowed to vote in the EU Referendum - a referendum that directly affected their lives in many ways (pensions, right to residency and employment in EU countries, access to healthcare abroad, freedom of movement, etc).
In September 2016, Theresa May promised permanent voting rights for British expats in time for the 2020 election.
As Theresa May has just called for an early general election on 8th June 2017. We request that she should follow up on her promise and offer British expats the right to vote in this upcoming election too.
Everyone says the Referendum was democratic, but it wasn't! These expats were unable to have a voice.
I personally applied online to vote, using the government's advertised link on Facebook. Leeds City Council replied to my application MONTHS AFTER the Referendum result was delivered! This is not democracy! I really wonder how many British citizens were unable to vote!
The British political situation is also in turmoil at the moment, and we need as many people to vote as possible, to help decide on the best future for the country and Brexit!
We do not have much time until the election, so please sign and share as much as possible, so that this matter is addressed in time for the election.
