Dear Rt Hon Theresa May MP

In the past few days, I have come across many petitions asking for fireworks to be silent, banned to be sold to the public etc.

I believe that fireworks should be banned altogether whether it is during Bonfire night, Diwali, New Year or any other festival. For a few minutes of display, we are causing the below:

Pollution: Whether it is noise pollution or smoke. We are inhaling smoke which can cause serial illness.

Asthma: People suffering from Asthma, struggle with breathing and a number of them have to attend A&E as the smoke triggers asthma attacks and causes further stress on our NHS which is already under a lot of strain.

Animals: Our pets suffer a lot due to the noise of fireworks especially dogs. We wouldn't want our kids to suffer in anyway then why let our pets go through the sufferings that come with fireworks. Not forgetting the horse that panicked by the noise of fireworks and died running away from them in Devon that was in local news.

New Year: The government spent roughly £1.8 million on the new year fireworks for an 11 minute display. This could go a long way if given to schools, NHS or supporting homeless to get them back on their feet.

Further strain on fire department: I couldn't find an official number of fires caused by fireworks due to accidents or human negligence. Not forgetting now many serious burning and deaths this may also be causing.

I am struggling to find any Pros of fireworks except few seconds of display. I understand the government may be getting tax money but I am sure that the cost of NHS, Fire Department, air pollution etc has more negative impact, both short term and log term, financially.

I urge the Government to ban the sale and display of fireworks not just to the public but as a whole in the UK. It is about time that we look after our environment and realise the consequences of fireworks. We need to lead and create an example of the rest of the work to follow.

I request all the groups who have raised petitions for partial bans to get together and get a full ban in place.
