As a single human being in 2018 alone, you consumed 70,000 pieces of microplastic. Single use plastic cups and bottles are the predominant form of packing in music venues, clubs and festivals in the UK. Plastics contain many chemicals and hazardous substances such as: Bisphenol A (BPA), thalates, antiminitroxide, brominated flame retardants, and poly-fluorinated chemicals. These pose a serious risk for human health and environment.

Plastics are being used by the public without knowing the toxic effects on human health and environment. Different human health problems exist such as: irritation in the eye, vision failure, breathing difficulties, respiratory problems, liver dysfunction, cancers, skin disease, lung problems, headache, dizziness, birth defect, reproductive, cardiovascular, genotoxic, and gastrointestinal diseases. Plastics occur serious environment pollution such as soil pollution, water pollution, and air pollution.

We therefore need rules and regulations for the production and use of plastics to reduce the toxic effects of plastics on human health and environment.  Many European festivals have taken a stance and have become waste free. Apply the model - bring your own bottle and reduce, reuse and recycle. The answer to stop people using single use plastics and reduce the amount of plastic litter at festivals is to ban the sale of plastic. Help us to put pressure on the largest distributers of single use plastic cups and bottles. Raising consciousness may be the most powerful thing we can do.
