Act on cutting plastic waste NOW by introducing a new Act of Parliament post Brexit.

Theresa May announced this week her 25-year plan which included eradicating all avoidable plastic waste in the UK by 2024. We say something needs to be done sooner. The proposals should have legal force and put tougher measures on large corporations that are responsible for 2 thirds of the damages caused to the worlds natural environments.
In the final series of Blue Planet II, David Attenborough said, 'never before have we had such an awareness of what we're doing to the planet. And never before have we had the power to do something about it'. Plastic doesn't biodegrade, they photodegrade. This means that they break down into smaller and smaller toxic bits. A plastic bag for example, can take between 400 and 1000 years to break down in the environment. As it breaks down, it contaminates the soil and waterways and enters the food web where animals can accidentally ingest them.
Theresa May acknowledges the damage plastic waste causes when she said it is 'one of the great environmental scourges of our time' in her speech at London Wetlands Centre but failed to indicate a real sense of urgency in this matter.
There is growing concern about the loss of European environmental standards once the UK leaves the EU. We want Theresa May to introduce a new Act of Parliment after Brexit.
I believe that if enough of us speak out we can force Theresa May to take urgent measures and ensure a new Act of Parliament is introduced after Brexit.
Together, let's save our Planet!
