Change the Racist Name of The Young Turks

This petition had 38 supporters

As a grandchild of two survivors of the Armenian Genoicde it makes me sick to see that an online liberal news company would unapologetically use the Name "The Young Turks." The Young Turks, in the Ottoman Empire, served the same means as the Nazi Party did in World War II. The Young Turks were responsible for gathering and massacring Armenian intellectuals during the first World War. With assistance from the Ottoman Government and Talaat Pasha, the Young Turks would massacre 1.5 million Armenians from 1915-1916.

The co-founder of The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur defends the name by saying that his idea of the Young Turks as "young progressives looking to overthrow an established system." Sounds innocent enough. Except that Cenk had openly denied the genocide of the Armenians while he attended the University of Pennsylvania in which he made the following statement:

“The claims of an Armenian Genocide are not based on historical facts. If the history of the period is examined it becomes evident that in fact no such genocide took place.”

Cenk has never clarified if his views have changed. In our eyes he is no better than a neo-nazi calming that the Jewish Holocaust is not real. We should not support people who believe in hateful ideals like this.

This "news" network tries to present themselves as non-racist by advocating for racist symbols like the confederate flag to be taken down. Yet they keep the name of mass murderers. I hope we as a unified force can make a change for good and have The Young Turks name changed to something more appropriate for an internet news talk show. I hope this petition gets the public support it needs and deserves.
