Why this petition matters

Started by Jack Paylor

Being out sick negatively effects your final exam exemption status at The Woodlands College Park High School. This has caused students to come to school ill with Influenza A and B, mononucleosis, step throat, and many more contagious illnesses. It has caused students to put the priority of their health behind their attendance, only because of the ability to exempt their spring semester exams. They feel forced to go to school, since exemptions are important to many students. While attendance is very important, personal and public health is arguably more important, and increased ratings or funding from low absence rates is no where close to as important as the health of students and staff. We hope this petition causes the College Park Administration team to make sick absences and full-day doctors notes immune from affecting exemption status for students. Connor ISD has a whole has already been rapidly enhancing their mental health awareness programs, and has been doing a great job doing so, but public health concerns like this still need to be addressed. Maybe concerns are regarding people lying about being absent due to illness, but a simple doctors note or affidavit form created by the school could help standardize tracking of these absences and hold criminal liability against those who forge them.
