It's time for Pit Bull Reforms
It's time for Pit Bull Reforms
It’s time to stop the abuse, the cruelty and victimization against pit bulls. We need to educate the public, to have real enforceable laws that protect these poor innocent creatures.
Pit bulls are not the problem. Pit bulls are domesticated dogs, not savage beasts. The whole breed should not be destroyed because of a select few that have been illegally trained to be aggressive fighters. Too many innocent puppy and adult dogs are being euthanized and not allowed to be adopted, dogs whose lives can be saved. We need to stop punishing the dogs and start punishing those responsible, the humans who break the law.
Did you know that the American Pit Bull Terrier was the most popular family dog at the beginning of the 20th century and in fact, was once called the "nanny dog", because of their extreme loyalty and kindness, especially with children? What happened? Unscrupulous people happened. Because of their loyalty and strength, they were used for the wrong reasons, for dog fighting, for bad behavior. And now, because of misinformation and media frenzy, a whole breed of dog is being destroyed.
It is estimated that for every ONE pit bull that attacks someone, over 5 million DON'T!
Most dog behaviorists and trainers will tell you, a dog is almost 100% a product of its owner and the training it receives, and NOTHING to do with the breed.
In North America, not only are pit bulls not in the top 5 most likely breeds to attack, they are actually behind shepherds, collies, and even golden retrievers!
There is no scientific evidence that shows genetics are a key to aggression or "unpredictability".
Pit bulls’ jaws DO NOT lock, yet another ridiculous myth.
Every year 1.2 million shelter dogs are euthanized. Of these 1.2 million dogs, 40% are American Pit Bull Terriers, more commonly known as Pit Bulls.
The ASPCA conducted a study that showed the Pit Bull Terrier came in second for having the highest temperament (lowest aggression).
Pit bulls are naturally loyal, caring towards people and children, and wonderful family dogs. Yet society has demonized pit bulls just because they fear them. Yet this is sadly misplaced. It is wrong and unjust to paint a picture of a certain breed of dogs as all being vicious or unpredictable. Pit bulls have been labeled "dangerous" because of the reputation forced upon them from people using them as fighting dogs. It could have been any breed, but it was Pit bulls who are tortured and forced to fight and become pawns to human greed. They are bred specifically for the purpose of fighting and have no chance for a normal life unless they are rescued. If these pit bulls do not want to fight or lose a fight they are punished by the most inhumane methods and die unimaginable deaths. They are beaten, hung, starved, electrocuted, slammed onto the ground, shot and set on fire when they are still alive and thrown away.
Ignorance and sensationalized reporting has led to the deception that all pit bulls have an innate desire to attack anything in its path. Pit bulls have been banned from communities and as this happens people are forced to give up their family members whom they love. These pets face death and again they are victimized by an uninformed government that is supposed to protect them. It’s time to set aside the misguided prejudice about pit bulls.
We ask that our Representatives learn the truth about Pit bulls, talk to pit bull owners, talk to veterinarians that understand pit bulls, visit a pit bull rescue. With this knowledge, you may save an innocent life. These dogs are thriving members of society when placed with the right person who cares. There are countless stories of pit bulls saving lives and helping people. These stories remain untold and in the shadows. If we are not helping to stop the victimizing of pit bulls, we are re-victimizing them all over again.
We ask our Representatives to introduce a bill that will stop the banning or discrimination of a certain dog breed in the United States and to help protect these animals. For a state to ban a breed is leaving countless dogs abandoned in shelters, creating overpopulation. These dogs are then euthanized because of breed specific legislation instead of anything they did wrong. This is discrimination. Isn’t that what America has fought against throughout history?
WE DEMAND PIT BULL REGULATIONS THAT ENFORCE LAWS FOR:
PET REGRISTRATION FOR PIT BULL OWNERS TO BE ALLOW FOR TRACK OF ABUSE, DOG FIGHTING AND ILEGAL BREADERS.
STOP BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION (BSL) AGAINST PIT BULLS
ENFORCEMENT OF SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAMS FOR PIT BULLS
DOG FIGHTINGTO BE CLASSIFIED AS CLASS A FELONY
TEMPORARY PIT BULL BREEDING BAN OF 3 YEARS.
Remember it's a dog that bites when it does bites; it's not a breed that bites. Pit bulls have been victims of humans for so long. It's time to stop the ignorance and cruelty done to these dogs. They are beautiful, intelligent, loyal and loving dogs. They deserve the same treatment that all other dogs. They deserve better.
