SUBJECT: APPLICATION DEMANDING REFORMS IN THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE OF PRESIDENCY
UNIVERSITY ADMISSION EXAMINATION 2017-‘18

RESPECTED SIR,
This is to bring to your notice that the admission tests of Presidency University for the academic session of 2017-2018 that is within the purview of your esteemed logistical undertaking, is facing a number of odds in its proceedings, both technical and ideological. We believe that the academic and intellectual flavor of every institution is distinct from the others and in that regard Presidency has maintained its legacy for centuries. Having said that, it is important to note that the demographic representation of the students of this institution is of utmost interest and plays an important role in the building, continuing and establishment of the academic legacy.
However, the issues that have emerged this year directly restrict and oppose whatever was held above, namely:
1. Last date of online registration and payment: It is undeniable that the said last date of application does not adhere to the principle of an inclusive and transparent admission test, since the applicants would not be through with their board examination results while making their choice of subjects to apply for, and since there is no option to re-do or edit the choice of subjects once the process ends, and prior to the entrance test. The deadline for application MUST be extended.
2. Lack of interdisciplinary choices: The rule that one must have studied the subject one is opting for in their higher secondary (or equivalent) course, or at least must have belonged to the same stream of choice, in order to be able to take admission, severely restricts the choices of the prospective students.
3. Centres of examination: Unfairly distributed exam centres once again disregards the demographic diversities that have always been well maintained in institution. This unfair and uneven distribution again excludes very many students who aspire to study at Presidency but are geographically located at remote areas.
4. Pattern of questions: Although it is understood that a lot of prestigious examinations are now being conducted in objective type, but stating that as the generic rule, disregarding the pulse of the discipline or the institution at large, puts all functioning variables in bad light. For instance: MCQ questions for social sciences and the humanities lacks the scope of testing and evaluating in-depth understanding and critical thinking abilities of the students.
Yours respectfully,
Presidency University Students’ Council
