Disney’s film “Pocahontas” was released in 1995 and is discriminative towards indigenous people. For example the lyrics to the “Savages” song which has many racial slurs. The whole film portrays indigenous people inaccurately and in my opinion is completely unacceptable. It is important to me that we portray history with respect. This movie inaccurately describes indigenous people and their culture. I think that the best way to stop this injustice is for Disney to remove the movie from circulation. This includes taking it off streaming services and no longer producing merchandise. I feel it is also respectful for Disney to release a formal apology for what they have done. The most disturbing fact is the Disney is still profiting off of this movie to this day. Let’s make a change!
