Keep Star Wars Light Side/Tinkerbell Half Marathons at Disneyland
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Every year, loyal runDisney runners register enthusiastically for the four treasured Disneyland half marathon weekends -- including Star Wars Light Side and Tinkerbell -- enjoying their theming, characters, entertainment and ambience.
The runners discuss them extensively on social media, plan them well in advance and devote a large percentage of their household budgets for entry fees, flights, hotel rooms, meals on Disney property, park passes and merchandise.
We are excited up to four times a year to experience the 13.1 miles of magic through the Disneyland resort area, Anaheim and Garden Grove. This could not take place with only a 5K or 10K alone, for which many could not justify the expense of a cross country trip.
We understand plans change. But we've waited since March for information on the future of Star Wars Light Side. We've been disappointed by the delay in registration and lack of information.
We ask that you keep these race weekends with the half marathons at the Disneyland resort as they have become iconic experiences for many loyal and dedicated Disneyland visitors each year. This was evident during your well-organized Disneyland Half Marathon weekend that many of us recently enjoyed.
However, if you find the races to no longer be financially feasible or logistically feasible due to improvements around the resort, record park attendance and other factors, we sincerely request that you put on these half marathon weekends at least one last time in 2018. This would give avid runDisney fans a grand way to close out their Disneyland running experience. And we request that you're upfront that these would be the last race weekends.
As many have registered for Princess Half Marathon weekend and Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon weekend, it would be very gracious of you to offer those registrants, many of them Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club members and frequent Disney visitors, at least a last opportunity which they had eagerly anticipated, to earn their pink coast-to-coast medal and their Kessel medal.
Early registration was held for 2018 Star Wars Light Side for several weeks starting in January. Some early registrants, which include many of us, had booked hotel rooms and nonrefundable flights from as far away as Australia and New Zealand and already scheduled time off from work. To prevent them from incurring a substantial financial loss, we ask that you still hold that race weekend on January 12 to 14th as scheduled.
We understand that castmembers based in Florida will be dealing with the impacts of Hurricane Irma, and we absolutely want all castmembers and guests to be safe. But when you're able to, we respectfully request that you give us an answer within the next few days on the status of those race weekends and the specific reasons for any changes. With the window of time narrowing for people to make flight arrangements and book hotel rooms, many are regretfully on the verge of making other plans if no announcement is forthcoming soon.
Please let us know whether you have not yet made any final decisions. If that is the case, please share with us the reasons why a decision has been delayed, what are you waiting for to happen before you make a decision, who would make this decision and when you anticipate you would announce your decision. We would appreciate any transparency.
Thank you for your attention to our requests and we wish the Walt Disney Company much success.
